How to activate Windows Server 2025 Standard?
- Receive your activation key and CAL keys by email from Licensier.
- Download the Windows Server 2025 ISO image from the Microsoft website.
- Install the system and select the Standard edition.
- Run PowerShell as administrator: slmgr /ipk YOUR-KEY
- Activate: slmgr /ato
- Configure hotpatching through Azure Arc and SMB over QUIC.
Server 2025 vs Server 2022 — is it worth upgrading?
Server 2025 adds: hotpatching (updates without restart), SMB over QUIC in the Standard edition, Credential Guard enabled by default, GPU Partitioning in Hyper-V, 32K page size in AD, and improved Azure Arc. Server 2022 is cheaper, more mature, and supported until 2031. If hotpatching and SMB over QUIC are important to you, Server 2025 is the obvious choice. If you are looking for a proven platform at a lower price, Server 2022 remains an excellent option.

What is hotpatching?
Hotpatching is the ability to install security updates without restarting the server. The system patches running processes in memory — zero downtime and no planned interruptions. Azure Arc is required to manage updates.
What is SMB over QUIC?
SMB over QUIC allows users to connect to network shares over the internet without a VPN. It runs over port 443, encrypts all traffic, and does not require special configuration on client computers. Ideal for remote work.
Are 100 CAL licenses enough?
The package includes 100 User CALs — access to the server can be assigned to up to 100 users. If you need more, you can buy additional CALs separately. For smaller teams, we also offer a 5 Users package.
How is Server 2025 different from Server 2022?
Key new features include hotpatching, SMB over QUIC (in Standard!), Credential Guard enabled by default, GPU Partitioning in Hyper-V, 32K page size in AD, improved DFS, and deeper Azure Arc integration. It is the most important upgrade since Server 2019.
How long will it be supported?
Microsoft extended support is expected to last until around 2035 (5 years of mainstream support + 5 years of extended support from the release date in October 2024).
Do I need Azure for hotpatching?
Yes, hotpatching requires Azure Arc for update management. You need an Azure account (free or paid) and must register the server in Azure Arc. Azure Arc itself is free.
How many VMs can I run?
The Standard license allows 2 Windows Server virtual machines. For more VMs, choose Datacenter (unlimited) or buy additional Standard licenses.
Is the license perpetual?
Yes, this is a one-time payment for a perpetual server license + 100 CAL licenses. No monthly subscription — the system works indefinitely.
